Tabernacle, NJ – Colonial Chemical Company has been awarded the first license by the American Petroleum Institute (API) under the API Diesel Exhaust Fluid Certification Program. The API license certifies that the materials used and fluid produced and marketed by Colonial Chemical Company meets international standards for automotive-grade urea. Many diesel engine manufacturers plan to recommend API-certified diesel exhaust fluid for their 2009 light-duty diesel cars and trucks and 2010 medium and heavy duty trucks.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid or DEF is a ultra high purity urea solution that is used in a system called Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to remove acid rain forming pollutants from the exhaust of diesel vehicles. The high purity of the DEF is critical to the performance of the SCR system. The American Petroleum Institute is just launching a certification program to verify that their licensees are supplying DEF that meets internationally accepted standards. The use of API Certified DEF will assure that one is using and producing the correct quality of product.

Colonial Chemical Company has been producing urea solutions for stationary SCR systems for more than 10 years. They have been producing DEF since 2006, and today supply it nationwide in bulk and packaged forms.
